Yoga Training Course “Beyond Asana”
Course co-ordinator and tutor Johnny Glover
Contributing tutor Michael McCann
Following a successful first year, this course is being offered again in 2009. A progressive training in yoga to enable participants to develop their own personal practice (sadhana) in a systematic and guided way. The practices will be based mainly on those developed and taught at the Bihar School of Yoga.
The course will be delivered from March 2009 to October 2009. It will consist of eight residential weekends at Samye Ling Monastery and Tibetan Centre in Dumfries & Galloway. Each weekend will begin with supper at 6.00pm on Friday and finish with lunch on Sunday which is served between 12.30 and 1.30 pm.
The course will give students an experiential understanding of traditional yoga techniques, and their practical applications. Potential participants may include:
• Students of yoga or other disciplines who wish to develop their own knowledge and skills of yoga, and who wish to go deeper into their understanding of themselves and others.
• Teachers of yoga who are interested in teachings based on those taught and practiced in the Bihar School of Yoga tradition.
Each weekend builds on the skills and knowledge of the previous weekends so the course builds into a comprehensive support for those wishing to develop their own practice. Participants have the option to decide how many weekends they wish to attend.
Johnny's Yoga teacher, Swami Nishchalananda, gives this recommendation:
"Johnny Glover has completed our two year Teacher Training Course at Mandala Yoga Ashram. He is trained in both the Yogic and Buddhist traditions and the course he proposes to give in Samye Ling promises to be an excellent opportunity for those who participate and who want to go deeper into Yoga."
